Enhancements to regional sea level projections through targeted coupled climate model simulations
I work on expanding the utility of global climate models to answer key questions about the causes and impacts of sea level rise. Specifically, we are working to ensure that the GISS Earth System Model can capture all the processes and feedbacks that affect regional sea level rise through better representations of terrestrial hydrology, ice sheet-ocean interactions, steric effects, including dynamic ice sheet models etc. These tools (once complete!) will allow for much better attribution of past change, and inform more credible projections for future. My team is also working on applying gravitational/rotational/deformational calculations to the modeled mass changes and the impact of changing storm climate and SLR on coastal surge.
