Contributions to Coastal Sea Level Extremes: Understanding the Past and Projecting the Future

Fabian Schloesser’s research is directed at understanding the dynamical processes underlying the ocean circulation, its interaction with the earth climate system and how they impact sea level variability. Utilizing analytical and numerical models and by carefully designing experiments, he tests ideas to illustrate how a particular mechanism works. Model solutions often build a hierarchy, with the simpler ones providing the dynamical “language” to interpret more complex ones as well as observational datasets, for example derived from satellite measurements. Research themes include the impact of coupled climate - ice sheet processes on climate and sea level variability, the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation, and geophysical fluid dynamics.
