B-roll for media. The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich is an Earth-observing satellite that will collect data on sea level and how it changes over time. By measuring sea surface height, scientists worldwide can monitor sea level rise, track climate patterns, improve hurricane forecasts, and monitor and understand ocean currents.

The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite is part of the Sentinel-6/Jason-CS (Continuity of Service) mission, a collaboration among NASA, ESA, EUMETSAT, and NOAA. The satellite was renamed in 2020 in honor of Michael Freilich, former head of NASA’s Earth Science Division. Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich will launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base no earlier than Nov. 21, 2020.
